How do you condense decades of research into 5 minutes on screen?
Science communication starts well before the end product is ready to be seen. This free-flowing conversation will highlight the importance of teamwork throughout the process, with a panel discussion from 3 different viewpoints all telling the same story: The Keiki Kohola Project.
Each panelist has a different process and SciComm approach to the same goal, and this discussion aims to provide insight from multiple perspectives for communicating research collaboratively.
What you can expect
Dr. Rachel Cartwright will talk about how she approaches humpback whale mother/calf research, how it has evolved over the last 28 years, how she looks to communicate her findings to lead to tangible results, and why having additional visual assets like those provided by underwater photographer Dan Cesere are helpful in the cause.
Underwater photographer Dan Cesare will talk about his background of underwater photography, the patience needed to capture the perfect shots, and how he approaches his delicate interactions with wildlife.
Moderator Jason Evans will navigate the conversation and also explain his role as a producer to accurately and succinctly translate Rachel's mission to a TV and/or digital audience.
The Association of Science Communicators is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization registered in Washington State, U.S.A. (EIN 82-2076772)
