Running for - and serving in - elected office isn't just about serving others. It's science communication in action! Learn from our panel on how science communication intersects with campaigning, door knocking, and the jobs of elected officials.
This is an event hosted by the Association of Science Communicators focused on what can be learned about science communication on the campaign trail and in elected office. The panelists represent a good mixture of perspectives including geographic, level of government, reasons for running, and experience level. A unifying theme among the panelists is that they all decided to run for office as a scientist.
This conversation will support not just the people who might want to run for office, but also those who want to do better policy-related science communication. Community members who aren't considering a career in politics will also get practical tips for connecting with non-scientists outside of an academic or other scientific organization.
This session will be widely applicable and reflects real science communication learning that happens by doing!
